We make Easter Special for our Kids
These are the “bunny bags” we got from oriental trading company; brought by a former classmate of mine, and this is the second year my old South Kitsap High classmates brought the Easter candy for the kids! KidSmart sponsors and volunteers Maggie, Joan and John Z., Miroslava and her friend Bob, Robyn filled plastic easter eggs with pastel jelly beans, addend more candy including marshmallow chicks and little chocolate bunnies, and then stuffed animals on top. We also filled all the envelopes with the kids stipends, receipt forms, and bus money. John and Joan brought a delicious dinner for all, including 2 bottles of wine! On Saturday, sponsors and regular volunteers Monica Hill, (still on crutches), Maggie McLean, John and Joan Z. and social worker Marister Yañez all pitched in and we got the expenses checked, receipts in, notices for next meeting handed out, along with the “bunny bags” (a week after Easter). Then Peter Hatton, member and professional photographer, took pictures of each kid and Stephano Vitale, member, artist and former art teacher, helped the kids paint picture frames to put the pictures in for their moms for mothers day next month. KidSmart mentor and Jr. Optimist President Alejandro Reyes helped the kids with their “frame work”. I had made an arrangement at City Club to give me priority on developing Saturday, and when I dashed over there, they had them developed and in my hands in 20 minutes. So the kids took their photos home with them on Saturday. They had paint all over them but it was a fun thing to do even though they are older kids. Next month we are going to the animal shelter in Cabo San Lucas. Join us!
